How I Alienated My Grandma

Author: Suzanne Main

Character's: Micheal, Elvis, Grandma Nelly, Mum and Grace.

Introduction: I snatched it out faster than a child at a lolly scramble and sat back on my heels to examine it. It was the size of my hand and shaped like a curved banana with two indentations along the top edge. The object appeared to be made of light, bright metal that glowed brilliantly, even though it had just come out of the dirt. I turned it over in my hand and stared at it. I had absolutely no idea what it was.

What I Know About Plastic

What I Know About Plastic

  • Our school polar fleeces are made out of plastic.
  • plastic is bad for the environment.
  • plastic is made of long strands of carbon.
  • Recycling plastic saves twice as much energy as burning it in an incinerator.
  • Over 1600 businesses are involved in recycling post-customer plastics.
  • Only around 27% of plastic bottles are recycled.
  • Americans throw away 25,000,000,000 Styrofoam coffee cups every year.
  • At least 90 percent of the price of a bottle of water is for things other than the water itself, like bottling, packaging, shipping and marketing.
  • For every 1 ton of plastic that is recycled we save the equivalent of 2 people’s energy use for 1 year, the amount of water used by 1 person in 2 month’s time and almost 2000 pounds of oil.
